OK. Time to rant.
So, the Bastard was trying to install Debian last night. The IBM Thinkpad 570
I've donated to the cause is being a real bitch. but The Bastard attributes this to Debian's retardified installer.
Try as we might, we can't find an easier Linux installer than Suse. Of course, Suse is a wopping pile of shit in otehr categories.
8.0 has lots of brain fart bugs, like the man1 directory not having permissions set properly after install.
But Debian's inadiquecies are driving us both insane. The Bastard's pissed because the installer keeps failing at seemingly random places. i pissed because The Bastard
has to use my Linux box to do all the floppy mastering. Windows fuxored the disks for some unknown reason.
The whole thing has started my brain a-thinkin' about installers.
Mac OS X has an excellent installer, at least from a retard's standpoint. 10.2 doesn't offer enough package customization to trim the install down to a
tiny system, but since you can't run the blasted thing on anything short of a G4, it's not a huge deal. After installing, however... I must say, Apple really likes leaving BSD alone.
The GUI still needs some work around the edges, but the BSD core is responsible for all the cool stuff I want ot do, so i have to
dive head first into UNIX land.
